Importing versus Inserting WBT Content

It is important to note the difference between importing content and inserting content into LearnCenter. Importing content creates a pointer in the LearnCenter to the content on your FTP site. Inserting content makes it accessible to users. Initially, you may import a number of web-based training (WBT) content items into your LearnCenter, and then gradually make them available to users as needed. So first you will import, then insert.

A good analogy is to think of "importing" and "inserting" in terms of a car dealership. The dealership may have many vehicles in the warehouse, but only a few on display in the showroom for customers to purchase. As weeks go by, the dealership may insert other vehicles into the showroom after customers purchase the ones on the display floor.

Making WBT content available to Users works in a similar manner. Let's say you have just purchased a Microsoft®Office library that includes over 150 courses covering topics from Beginner Microsoft® Excel to Advanced Microsoft® Word. You plan to use just the Excel courses in your initial rollout and then insert Word, Microsoft® PowerPoint®, and other courses gradually in the months to come. You will first import all of the classes into your LearnCenter “warehouse” but only display Beginner Microsoft® Excel in your “showroom” for Users to see. When the time comes, you will reach into your LearnCenter warehouse again and bring Word and PowerPoint into the showroom as well.
